8: Sell With Ease: The First Step

The most important thing you can focus on in your business is sales. This is a pretty unpopular opinion, but I’m going to explain how and why this is important.

Business requires money, and to get money, you need to sell. It is fully possible to be able to sell with ease, confidence, and integrity. You don’t have to be sleazy, to be pushy, or to make people feel uncomfortable. But it is a muscle you need to train, and there can be so much emotional and mental crap that comes up with selling – with fear of rejection, fear of confrontation, with self-worth.

How can you get more of your ideal clients coming to you and saying, “I need you! How can we work together?” That’s all part of your sales process.

It’s not just about what you do on that call with a potential client so that the end outcome is a “Yes! How can I pay you?” or “Great. How can we work together?” But it’s also about the stuff that you do beforehand

  • with your website
  • with your content
  • with your social media
  • with your daily activities

I believe a lot of this needs to be focused on sales. Because, at the end of the day, you’re running a business.

A big mistake I made early in my business, and I see this time and time again so consistently, is only focusing on the what of what you do.

In my case, I do business and marketing strategy. When I started my business, I even created flyers that said “Does your business have a digital strategy?”That was the headline of my about page. The answer to that question is no one cares.

Literally apart from other strategists, no one cares about the question “Does your business have a digital strategy?” Because if your business is making money, you’re happy, and you’ve got your freedom and clients, why would you care if you’ve got a business strategy or not? As long as it’s working! The moment I changed that headline to “Does your marketing make you feel like you’re screaming into the void?” everything shifted.

At the end of the day, as a business owner, you care about

  • Are you getting enough clients?
  • Are you making the level of income, revenue, and profit (different things) that you want?
  • Are you working the number of hours you want?
  • Are you working in a stress-less way the way you want to?
Sell with Ease: The first step

“As a business owner, I really believe that your main focus needs to be on sales. That doesn’t mean you shove your thing down people’s throat, but rather leading people towards a sales-oriented conversation with you.“

– Maggie Giele

So instead of asking that question, what if I said something like, “Are you happy with the level of profit and freedom you have in your business?” Or “Do you want more freedom and profit in your business?”

It’s exactly the same thing because the answer to that for me is still “We’ll work on your strategy, your marketing, your content and so on, your pricing, and your offers.” But the way I phrase it, the way I position it for you, is completely different.

I’ve got a couple of examples of other people who are doing this really well. It’s all on the headline of their website. I land on the website, and this is the first thing I see.
